Vickrum Ahuja grew up in Indian restaurants. His parents were among the first to open an Indian restaurant in Montreal's Park Extension neighbourhood, which is now a known hub of Indian cuisine. “When they opened their first place, they had no idea what it meant to run a restaurant, but my mom knew she just wanted to cook,” he says.
So when Vickrum and his wife decided to open a place in the Shaughnessy Village, they knew they were carrying on tradition. “It's basically her; her style of cooking, her food. She's passed it on to these guys and we've carried it on,” says Vickrum. That restaurant, which they opened in 2009, is Thali Cuisine Indienne, a favourite take-out place in the neighbourhood for its delicious food, affordable prices and quick service.
