Well, I really can't comment on the food because we never had a chance to order. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm and the place was less than packed. We were seated, given menus, and...yeah...that was about it. We sat there for 15 minutes while the servers (?) waited on other patrons and did everything they could to avoid eye contact with us. We didn't get water for crying out loud. We decided to be fair and wait a few more minutes. One of the servers was "busy" wiping down clean tables. The other finished bringing food to the table nearest us and then walked away to have a drink of soda behind the bar. Really?!? And they have a sign outside that says "we serve families". Not in my lifetime. We got up and walked out...none of the staff even bothered to notice. I have NEVER had such atrocious (lack of) service and will make it a priority to tell everyone I know to steer clear of this miserable place.
Having rediscovered the Thirsty Cactus this past year it has quickly become our favourite restaurant. The pulled pork sandwich is a hands down favourite for my husband and I. We love that the prices are reasonable. Traditionally we go out to eat to celebrate birthdays and we found the Thirsty Cactus to be $40 cheaper for our family than the last chain restaurant we went to. Add in the terrific food and you really can't go wrong. The service has always been spot on. I really have no complaints!
Well it was a crazy day, so my husband and I decided to head over to the 'Cactus'. We were greeted at our table by a bowl of warm nachos and sinful queso sauce over top!
My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and I the smokehouse wrap, with "cow patty" (hehe).
The pulled pork was juicy and melted in your mouth. It was savory and moist. The fries were not the 'freezer bag' kind, and all golden and crispy.
The wrap was huge! I opted for spicy steak, which was tender and full of flavor. This was married with mexican rice, cheese and bacon. I can't remember what sauces were on it, but it was excellent! I had a cup of sour cream to use if needed.
The cow patty was a mix of home-cooking and new flavors. Creamy mashed potatoes with spicy Cajun seasoning, grilled so it had a crispy bottom. Topped with caramalized onions and gravy. It was sinful and comforting on a grey and damp evening!
You'll love the rustic 'western' decor, and I was happy to see all the tables perfectly neat and clean! The servers smiled naturally (no fake smiles here!) and seemed to be in high spirits. The food was out on our table in a quick and orderly fashion as well.
I reccomend this place if you're feeling hungry.
You will NOT leave here hungry..that's for sure.
Excellent service and portions were huge! We ordered the chicken wrap and pulled pork sandwich. Both were excellent! Wish we had enough room to try the deep fried cheesecake but we were too full so next time.
