I stopped in for pasta night with my fiancé and everything was lovely. The host and waitress were both very friendly. The atmosphere in the restaurant and on the patio (we sat in both locations as I was a bit warm on the patio) was fun. Our drinks, appetizers and entrées all came exactly as expected and were delicious. Been twice in the past month-once for dinner and a lunch. The space is small and has been busy but accomodating on both occasions. You can buy fresh fish to take home from a counter as you come in. They serve a basket of warm little grainy rolls to start along with glasses of water. My companion's halibut, declared the best ever, sat perched on julliened veggies with a light citrus sauce as the days special. My jumbo shrimps were perfectly done in a garlic sauce. The glasses of wine were more generous than one usually finds. The fish and chips came with fresh cut fries and a small homemade coleslaw. Nice and crispy. Our only disappointments were a cup of lobster bisque-thin broth vs the creamy concoction I was expecting(Maybe I don't know bisque) and crab cakes which came as two large balls with a uniform minced texture. I went to the new Beijing Legend restaurant on Bank with my wife and our friends. My wife is Chinese and is picky about your 'authentic flavour'. The atmosphere of this place is very nice and better than other Chinese restaurants I have been. The workers all wear nice uniform and great you with a smile. This restaurant has only been open a few weeks so the service was a little slow. I don't think it was a big concern as it was much faster than most restaurants around(just not compared to normal Chinese food). The best thing about Beijing Legend was the taste of the food. We ordered a fish dish, pork dish with mushrooms and a tofu dish. We started the meal with a nice soup. Each dish brought a smile to our faces and we were surprised how good it tasted. The portions were large and even with 4 of us we had to take some home. Currently Beijing legend is CASH ONLY however I believe that will change soon. They also will have their liquer licence soon so once they have that it will be an even better experience. My wife and I look forward to going again soon. Read more

Cheap and Delicious food, it is easy to miss until you have been there, the place may be a little difficult to find but you can get a great meal and could expect to pay anywhere between $9 to about ~$17, a great deal for the food you are getting. Not only is it delicious but it is also filling. The owner is extremely friendly and you get your meals quick. The atmosphere is great and is definitely welcoming, and the closest I could find to a problem (which is definitely much closer to being a nitpick) is that if you are both vegetarian and gluten free you are out of luck (however if you are one of those things, there is something for you). Better than most ethnic places I have been to in Ottawa, and once you find it once it is much more accessible than the comparable restaurants that often are in the centre of town. I look forward to my next experience there. EDIT: Also it is designed to be a dinner place and the meals feel that way, if you have a choice of going there for either dinner or lunch I would recommend going there for dinner, although I here they are fairly busy around dinner time. Of course, it was the eleventh hour when I called and tried to make an evening reservation on Valentine’s Day. And, of course, like everyone else they were completely booked but they did call me back and I was so happy that they could squeeze us in. We enjoyed the best meal we could have hoped for. The house red (forget the varietal) was so perfectly pared with the shrimp appetizer, Gamberi Di Amaretto. And the chardonnay was lovely with the escargots. Our entrees were equally delicious and in spite of the fact that it was a very busy evening for Napoli’s, the food arrived at our table fresh and hot and the service was perfect. Water glasses were always topped up and we were never left unattended for long. The servers were very friendly and approachable and it all made for a fantastic dining experience. We also didn’t feel over-crowded in this ‘full-to-capacity’ restaurant. Our table provided plenty of elbow room and the table conversation was easy to hear in spite of people. We were very comfortable and happy to be enjoying the wonderful atmosphere. We can’t wait to have dinner at Napoli’s again. Read more

The Writer's Festival provided the opportunity to visit this restaurant twice in one week. What strikes one immediately, besides the very loud fountain by the door, are the warm and welcoming smiles of the staff. I was famished when we arrived at 5:00 PM. When our food came, very quickly after we ordered, I though that the servings seemed awfully small. Our meal arrived piping hot, the Jasmine Rice was wonderful, fresh and light and the Pad Thai and shrimp dish were very beautifully presented and very colourful. I am very much a foodie and I want a restaurant to give me an experience I am unable to create in my own kitchen. What Talay Thai provides is food that is a riot of flavours – seemingly five to nine distinct flavours flowing over your taste buds simultaneously. It works and I am now curious as to how I can recreate these multiple flavour sensations in my own kitchen. Our second meal was exactly the same as the first. Warm greeting, quick but unrushed service (great for pre-theatre or event dining), deceptively small looking servings, but incredibly tasty, attractive and filling food. We choose another shrimp dish, this one made with coconut milk and a tofu and vegetable dish. Everything was perfectly cooked and what is most striking about the food is the sense that every ingredient is incredibly fresh. Both meals were delivered to our table at their peak of perfection. As we arrived early there was plenty of free parking adjacent to the restaurant. This is the perfect place to shift from work to relaxation mode. With their quick service Talay Thai is also an ideal place to eat if the next part of your evening includes getting to your entertainment venue, well fed all while feeling unrushed. Read more

An out of the way little house that looks like a local take out pizza joint. Walk in and there are a few tables. Sit down and order and get some of the best Italian food I have had in Ottawa. Ask what the special is, you never know. We stared wit a sausage appetizer that is to die for, flavorful and spiced just right. There were 6 of us so we all ordered different things and tried each others. There was not a loser in the bunch. Skip the insalata, it is just greens on a plate. The veal picatta was outstanding and the pastas were great. Get the house wine, the night we were there it was a very good valpolicella.
