At this locally beloved neighbourhood market held at Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Centre, you’ll find a wide variety of Alberta farm goods and ethnic eats. Formerly Kingsland Farmers’ Market, this pleasant, food-focused facility prides itself on being vendor owned and operated. Visitors can fill their bags (reusable, naturally!) with Field Stone Fruit Wines, sustainably harvested Dor Bel seafood, naturally raised veggies and game birds by Green Eggs & Ham as well as Calgary-crafted sweets by Wicked Chocolate. This spacious market near the intersection of Blackfoot Trail and Heritage Drive Southeast is always stocked with an impressive array of meats, cheeses, produce, baked goods and more. Its lengthy vendor list includes Simple Simon Pies, Spragg’s Meat Shop and The Silk Road Spice Merchant. The market also features an especially good food court as well as restaurant kiosks throughout. Year round, Thursday to Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm.
Just east of the downtown core, Crossroads features all the requisite Alberta farmers’ market staples from honey and frozen perogies to deli meats and hothouse veggies. A considerable portion of the market is also given over to flea market and boutique vendors hawking everything from antique toys and coins to used books and kids’ clothes.
